I painted the first version of this scene in a botanic garden in northwestern Spain along the Costa Brava Coast near Palafrugel. With this watercolor painting I was inspired by the bright stone steps showing strong shadows with colorful rock walls surrounded by the soft, leafy vegetation and trees around. I added the woman in the pink hat to help explain where the path led.
