This watercolor painting is based on a Congress Avenue bronze statue commemorating Angelina Eberly firing a cannon in 1842 to warn the locals of the theft of papers certifying Austin as the capital of Texas. This brave librarian and a group that followed the thieves were successful in getting the papers back from Sam Houston’s soldiers. This painting was primarily poured paint on the paper. Notice the street signage of the Paramount and State theaters in the background.
Thanks for visiting my gallery! I originally hail from Michigan but now consider Austin, Texas to be my home. My professional life has been quite varied including teaching, scientific research and landscape architecture. After retiring, I tried painting with watercolors and have loved it for over 15 years now! Nancy
